Our Daily Elder Devotional
We claim no originality for these devotions. One of our elders searches various sources and finds a daily devotion. Consider this a gift from Clinton Avenue Reformed Church: www.clintonave.org.
Today’s devotional comes from “Hope for Each Day” by Billy Graham.
A Clear Conscience
Acts 24:16Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 In view of this, I also do my best and strive always to have a clear conscience before God and before men.
Benjamin Franklin composed this little rhyme: “keep conscience clear, then never fear.” George Bernard Shaw, the great Irish writer said, “Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.”
Is conscience was such a vital concept to these secular writers, how much more concerned should we as Christians be that our consciences are “without offense towards God and man quotes”? Without conscience we would be like rudderless ships at sea, or missiles without a guidance system.
God has given our conscious to us. Its very presence is reflection of God in the human soul. Sin, however, can dull or even distort our conscience, silencing its voice and leading us astray. But God’s Word can purify and sharpen our conscience—and when that happens, “He leads [us] in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (Psalm 23:3). Is this happening in your life?
