No More Darkness

Read: Revelation 21:21-27

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. (vv. 23-25)

As Scripture closes, darkness is revisited for the last time with the beast and its kingdom being plunged into darkness (Revelation 16:10-11). Night still exists, for the phrase “day and night” are used to describe the perpetual torment of the beast, false prophet, and devil (Revelation 20:10), as well as the state in which the kingdom of God will perpetually dwell, gates open all day—literally all the time, because there will be no night in this wildly beautiful city (v. 25).

Imagine a place where night never descends; total safety, no fear; wild animals roaming with people; evil, once for all, put away, powerless. Imagine entire nations walking together in the light of God the Father and Son, seeing truth fully, watching justice roll down like water; a city filled with people focused on love, not self-importance. Imagine kings of the earth gladly bringing their earthly glory back home to the source of power and light.

What a day it will be—and we who love Jesus will be there. I don’t know you now, but I will then, and we will dance together in the light that never goes out. —Amy Clemens

As you pray, imagine the end of the story. It will do your heart good.
