The Narrow Way
February 2, 2020
Read: Matthew 7:13-23
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (vv. 13-14)
I use an electric wheelchair to get around. My family didn’t have to buy an expensive lift to get me into our van because my wheelchair can climb steep inclines. I use two six-foot aluminum ramps. These ramps are not much wider than my tires. I have to get on those narrow pieces of aluminum just right. If I don’t, there is no way to get into the van.
Jesus talked about a narrow way that leads to heaven. It is hard to travel on the narrow way. We have to give up all we have and accept the fact that Jesus is the Son of God.
People like to watch as I get into the van. Often they say, “I could never do that.” I have to admit that it does take some practice, and sometimes I still mess up. Then I have to back down and start over.
We can start over on the way to heaven too. When we mess up, all we have to do is to stop and ask for forgiveness. No matter what we have done, Jesus will forgive us because of the blood he shed on the cross. We don’t have to be perfect on the road; there is always forgiveness along the way. —Steven Laman
As you pray, ask God for help in taking the narrow way.
