Read: Revelation 21:10-27

. . . the Lamb’s book of life. (v. 27)

Hanging outside the probate court’s massive double doors, an enormous, hand-stitched piece of fabric is suspended against the wall. The courthouse staff simply refers to it as “The Adoption Quilt,” and all adoptees are asked to sign their names. Not only does it tangibly mark every adoption hearing the judge has presided over, but every signature physically marks the placement of a child in their “forever” home. Ben was handed a Sharpie pen, and in permanent, black marker added his name to the hundreds of names that already covered the quilt.

Scripture tells us there is a “book of life.” Those who know the Lamb have their names indelibly written in this book. Nothing we do—no sin, shame, or fault—will ever cause our names to be removed. Nothing will ever blot us out. Like Ben’s name written on that quilt, every believer’s name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, and like Ben our new identity along with his covenant promises are sealed. Truly, his love endures forever!

Last year, our family returned to witness another adoption in that same courtroom. Again, following the proceedings, little Joshua was handed a permanent marker. There it was! Josh wrote his new name on the quilt inches from Ben’s and received his own forever family. Is your name written in the Lamb’s book of life? —Tammy DeRuyter

As you pray, ask him to confirm this for you. If you’re not sure, ask him into your heart!
