If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.” (v. 28 NLT)

Clothes. Unless you’re a toddler, you have to wear them regularly. Whether you enjoy shopping or dread it, do you ever think about who made your clothes? Where did the materials come from? Who sewed it all together? How long did it take?

Recently, I’ve begun to buy my clothes from Fair Trade Certified or Certified B Corporations. Some of these companies have the name and signature of the person who made the article of clothing right on the label. What a unique way to make the world a little smaller. I’ve also noticed that the higher quality of these clothes means they last longer. I’m able to find clothes to mix and match for all seasons. By doing this, I’m cutting out fast fashion trends in my wardrobe and putting things in my closet that I love.

Buying “ethically made” clothes can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be an entire wardrobe change all at once. I buy a couple of pieces at a time to replace something I would need to replace anyways. If I can’t find anything from an “ethical brand” but I still need to replace an item, I check out local thrift stores. Thrift stores are a great alternative because they recycle clothing, which keeps the demand for new clothes lower. We have the power to help our fellow humans now. They need our help now. Please don’t wait. —Kelly Brace

As you pray, remember the men, women, and children who are enslaved making garments around the world.
