Jesus Is Both God and Man
March 29, 2021
Read: John 1:1-14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us . . . (v. 14)
As we consider the uniqueness of God, we come to the revelation that Jesus is both fully God and fully man. This makes him unique in all of the universe! Isaiah prophesied in the Old Testament that the Messiah would be known as “Immanuel”—“God with us” (Isa. 7:14; see Matt. 1:23). As John began his Gospel, he shared the wonder of this truth.
Yesterday we read in Hebrews 1 that God has spoken to us in these last days by his Son (Heb. 1:2). John the apostle showed how this same “Word”—Jesus—is God from eternity past. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Jesus brought both light and life to mankind, but many in the world did not know him or receive him. Still, to those who did believe, “he gave the right to become children of God” (v. 12). How was this possible? Jesus, God the Son, became a man! “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (v. 14). We saw the glory of God in Jesus the man, “full of grace and truth.”
The rest of John’s Gospel tells us more about Jesus. His miracles demonstrated the power of God and his words gave us the hope of eternal life. His death and resurrection obtained our salvation. Because he is both fully God and fully human, he is our Savior forever! —Laura N. Sweet
As you pray, thank Jesus for all he has done to save us.
