Read: Jeremiah 17:7-8

But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. (v. 7 NIV)

Juan had come from far away to the Tzeltal Bible School for a week-long Bible institute. One day he stopped by to visit us and told us how God answered prayer for him.

“You know I live on the edge of the grassland, and our land isn’t very good. Three years ago, our cornfield was ruined by a heavy hail storm just as the ears were beginning to form. Two years ago, the very same thing happened. It ruined everyone’s cornfields. Our families suffered from lack of food.

“Last year,” he continued, “when we planted our corn, we Christians decided we would go to each of our fields and ask God to protect them from hail. We prayed for God’s protection.

“This year, for the third year in a row, heavy hail came just as the ears were forming, and it destroyed all the fields of our non-Christian neighbors who had not prayed for God’s protection. But the fields of us who had prayed were all spared. The hail did not fall on our fields this year. We had a good crop.

“God heard and answered our cries to him for help! This year our children will not be hungry! God is very good.” —Helen Hofman

As you pray, thank our heavenly Father for answering the prayers of your people. Consider the “fields of corn” in your life that you need to entrust to his care.
