Drink More Water
By Steven Laman on February 15, 2022
Read: John 4:1-26
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37-38)
“You need to drink more water,” the doctor told me. At first, I did not think much of his prescription, but I began the habit of having a bottle of water on my desk. When I started my regimen, I had to force myself to drink.
Jesus met a woman from Samaria as she was filling her water jug. When he asked for a drink, their conversation quickly turned to spiritual water. Jesus told her that if she would drink of his living water, she would never be spiritually thirsty again. Later in John, Jesus offers anyone this spiritual drink—a drink that satisfies our deepest need for love, forgiveness, and acceptance.
As the weeks went by, I noticed that more and more water was gone from my bottle. When Jesus satisfies our souls, we tend to want more and more of him in our lives. The great physician asks us to drink deeply of him. When we do, living water will overflow from us. This water spilled out of the woman at the well as she told the townspeople about Jesus. May we follow her example, letting Jesus satisfy our needs and letting his goodness flow out of us to others. —Steven Laman
As you pray, thank Jesus that he is the water of life.
